On tour at Olveston

I was sure Barry and I had visited Olveston earlier this year but looking back I discovered our last visit was in October!  Before settling down to investigate specific rooms I thought another tour might be beneficial so I joined a tour group today led by Billy Heron.

Billy’s a great guide, very informative and not put off by interruptions like, “Do you think she was gay” (referring to Dorothy) and “Well I’ve got one exactly like that at home”.  He answered every question with aplomb and then gently moved the group through to the next room.

When I caught up with Billy later he said that’s part of being a tour guide  – the ability to take the time to answer every question, but also keep to the schedule. After a short tea break he left to take charge of another tour while I went back to have a closer inspection of a couple of objects which intrigued me, listening out for the group so I would be gone before they appeared.
